An adventurous overland safari through Northern Botswana

From Kasane - Botswana’s second safari hub, with Victoria Falls within easy reach, this journey pushes deep into the wild heart of Chobe National Park. From the elephant-dense Chobe Riverfront, you overland into Savuti’s predator territories, continue through the remote Mababe and Khwai ecosystems, explore Moremi Game Reserve and reach the shimmering waterways of the Okavango Delta. After a pause in Maun, the landscape shifts dramatically to the vast salt pans of Makgadikgadi before closing the loop back in Kasane. The ultimate Botswana overland safari raw, immersive and deeply rewarding.

Day 1–3

Ease into your adventure along the Chobe River. Explore the Chobe Riverfront by 4x4 and by boat — famous for Africa’s largest elephant population.Visit the mighty Victoria Falls for a day or overnight stay. Sunset cruises, white-water rafting or simply standing before the thundering falls set the tone.We recommend two to three nights here — a comfortable buffer before heading into more remote terrain.

Day 3–4

Today is not just a transfer — it is one extended game drive through the interior of Chobe National Park toward Savuti.Savuti is legendary for predator density, particularly its elephant-hunting lion prides. Camp beneath open skies in one of Botswana’s wildest regions. One night is possible; two is strongly recommended. With more time, we add the remote Linyanti region — one of Botswana’s best-kept secrets, known for wild dogs, large elephant herds and exclusive riverside camps.

Day 4–6

Khwai & Moremi: Deep Bush Continuity

Continue south through Mababe toward the Khwai area and into Moremi Game Reserve. This stretch offers some of the most varied habitats in Northern Botswana — floodplains, mopane woodland and permanent Delta channels.Camp under canvas or stay in carefully selected lodges in the Khwai Community Concession. Mokoro excursions and boat trips add a water-based perspective to your safari.

Day 6–8

Maun & the Okavango Delta

After days in remote terrain, Maun feels like civilisation — but still with a safari heartbeat.Rest, enjoy excellent local restaurants and perhaps take a mokoro excursion into the Okavango Delta if you haven’t already. A scenic flight over the Delta is another unforgettable option.

Day 8–11

East of Maun, the environment changes entirely. You enter the immense salt flats of the Makgadikgadi Pans.Spend two to three nights exploring:

  • Nxai Pan National Park – excellent in the green season

  • Boteti River – strong dry-season wildlife

  • The vast lunar landscapes of Makgadikgadi

Baobab islands, zebra migrations and sunrise quad biking offer a powerful contrast to the Delta’s wetlands.

Makgadikgadi & Nxai Pans

Day 11–12

Nata & Elephant Sands

On the eastern edge of the pans, Nata provides a relaxed overnight stop. Choose between comfortable lodges, charming guesthouses or a riverside campsite. For something memorable, stay near Elephant Sands — where elephants wander freely through camp and waterholes attract wildlife at close range.Birdlife flourishes at the nearby community-run Nata Bird Sanctuary.

Day 12–14

Return to Kasane

Complete the loop back to Kasane. Revisit the Chobe River, enjoy a final boat cruise, or catch up on activities you may have skipped at the beginning.End your Chobe–Okavango Overlander with stories of deep sand tracks, roaring lions and endless horizons.
