Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe/Zambia
Where water, mist and power shape an unforgettable spectacle

Thundering, timeless and deeply impressive, Victoria Falls is one of Africa’s most iconic natural wonders. Known locally as Mosi-oa-Tunya — “the smoke that thunders” — the Zambezi River plunges over a basalt cliff, creating a vast curtain of water and mist that can be seen and heard from far away. The sheer scale and power of the falls make this an experience that leaves a lasting impression.
The Zimbabwean side offers the most complete and immersive perspective, with well-maintained walking trails that follow the edge of the gorge and provide continuous views of the falls. Each viewpoint reveals a different angle: from wide panoramic vistas to close encounters where spray rises high above the rainforest, nourishing a lush microclimate of ferns and towering trees.

Beyond the falls themselves, the surrounding area offers a wide range of experiences. Sunset cruises on the Zambezi River provide a serene counterpoint to the drama of the falls, while adrenaline seekers will find no shortage of adventure from world-class white-water rafting on the Zambezi to bungee jumping off the Victoria Falls Bridge and ziplining across the gorge. Victoria Falls also forms a natural link between Zimbabwe, Zambia and Botswana, making it an ideal addition to a broader southern African itinerary.

Even though Victoria Falls lies just across the border in Zimbabwe, it is easy to include as a day trip or overnight stay from Kasane, Botswana, only about an hour and a half away. This proximity makes Victoria Falls a natural and rewarding extension to a safari in northern Botswana, adding spectacle and contrast to a journey through the region.
