Skeleton Coast

Where the desert meets the Atlantic in wild isolation

Skeleton Coast National Park stretches along Namibia’s northern Atlantic shoreline, a wild frontier where desert meets sea. Renowned for its windswept beaches, towering sand dunes, and eerie shipwrecks, the coast has earned its name for the skeletal remains of ships and whaling stations that line its remote shores.

Despite its harsh environment, the Skeleton Coast is rich in wildlife. Colonies of Cape fur seals dominate the beaches, while desert-adapted elephants and lions roam the inland plains. Birdlife is abundant, and the ever-present ocean adds a dramatic backdrop to every encounter.

Travellers should be aware that distances here are vast and points of interest are often far apart. This is a destination that rewards careful planning, respect for the environment, and a spirit of adventure.  With its open landscapes, rugged dunes, and unmistakable sense of isolation, the Skeleton Coast offers a uniquely dramatic experience  a place where Namibia’s raw beauty and untamed wilderness come together in striking contrast.
